Enhanced security in the air cargo chain (ESecLog)

The aim of the research project ESecLog is to develop a cargo fingerprint information system for improving air cargo security and verification. By examining several specific characteristics at various points along the air cargo chain a tampering of the cargo can be detected early. Each cargo has a digital fingerprint consisting of various sensors that are digitally stored and verified.

As part of the ESecLog project, the Viaboxx GmbH is responsible for the development of the cargo fingerprint information system to store the those digital fingerprints for each air cargo shipment.

The cargo fingerprint information system could be used to avoid repetition of expensive security scans of air cargo e.g. by x-ray or manual control, if the fingerprint did not change along the air cargo process chain. Therefore, the developed solutions for ESecLog may lead to a reduction of security checks and the integration of securing processes in the air cargo chain.

The project is founded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with the reference number 13N12640.
